Windows 11. The main part of this announcement should be the presentation of a significant UI change codenamed Sun Valley. As we know, a significant part of the UX changes will be taken over by the Windows 10X shell, and Windows 10X will not be released. Now, as expected, information about Windows 11 is starting to leak out.
What’s new in Windows 11:
– Windows 11 will get a completely new look. Microsoft, of course, needs a good reason to withdraw its previous claims and abandon Windows 10, introducing a new operating system number. And a completely new design is great for this. The Redmond giant has long been preparing a redesign of the update, codenamed Sun Valley (“Sun Valley”) – supposedly, Windows 11 was under this name. The Sun Valley project flashed on the network for a long time – Microsoft regularly gave details of the new interface style, insiders shared previously unknown information, and popular designers in their circles drew realistic concepts based on all this data.
– Start and system elements will float above the bottom bar. Start is the calling card and face of every current version of Windows. It is not surprising that the creators will redesign it again in Windows 11, although not so much in the functional sense as in the visual sense – the Start window will float above the bottom bar. It must be admitted that this small change makes the appearance of the system much fresher. According to information from the Internet, Microsoft will not radically change the “inside” of this menu – the innovations will only affect the appearance of the window itself. The control panel will also float, and its appearance will be exactly the same as in the case of “Startup”. The action center is combined with control keys – a similar one has long been used in some other operating systems. Almost all mentions of the new menu indicate that it will be an island – the control buttons will be on a separate bar, notifications on another, and some elements (e.g. the player) on yet another.
– Right angles will disappear and will be replaced by curves. In fact, experts and concept designers do not agree on this issue – some are convinced that Microsoft will not change its traditions and will not maintain right angles, while others are convinced that in 2021 Microsoft will follow the fashion for fillets. The latter fits better into the definition of “all new Windows” – the floating menu alone is not enough for the new design to be considered truly new. It is expected that files will affect practically everything in the system, from context menus and system panels to all application windows. The opinions of concept designers also differ on this issue – some draw roundings in various interface elements, others connect them at right angles.
– There will be a transparent background with blur everywhere. There is no agreement on the Internet about the insular style of window display, the design of corners and the effect of floating menus, but almost everyone agrees on the transparency of windows. The vast majority of leaks and project renders show transparency and blur in all windows, at least in the Start menu or Explorer. Moreover, these effects are even included in the assembly of the canceled Windows 10X operating system, which Microsoft developed in parallel with the Sun Valley project for dual-screen devices and lower-performance gadgets.
