An author returns to his hometown of Jerusalem's Lot in search of inspiration for his next book, only to discover that the townspeople are being attacked by a bloodthirsty vampire.. Writer Gary Dauberman told Den of Geek in June 2019 that his goal with the new version of Salem’s Lot is to make vampires frightening again. He wants to get away from the sexier, more romanticized undead that have infested pop culture for much of the past quarter century, thanks to everything from Interview with the Vampire to Twilight to The Vampire Diaries.. When Ben is reading old newspapers on microfilm in the library, a headline reads "Local Couple Victims of DUI". The paper was supposedly printed in 1956, at a time when the term "DUI" was not yet in use.. References Trog (1970).
This new adaptation of Stephen King’s classic, “Salem’s Lot”, is a missed opportunity. It’s now well-known that this movie fell victim to studio meddling, both from WB and producer James Wan. The result is a mediocre, bland, and lifeless product. King’s strength has always been his focus on the human element – the characters, and how their relationships inform the narrative and provide an emotional core to his stories. It seems, based on what’s left, that director Dauberman had an idea of how to tell the story while staying faithful to the source material. His directorial approach is simple, almost naive, but for a story like this, it could’ve worked.
However, any resemblance of life has been sucked out (likely in the editing room), leaving behind what I’d call a "non-film." The pacing is so brisk it becomes annoying, making it impossible to care about the one-dimensional characters, who exist more as narrative devices than as real people. The visual style doesn’t help either, as it’s reminiscent of The Conjuring series-visually slick, sterilized horror aimed at the masses. The few character-driven moments seem shot for efficiency, with the most basic framing, blocking, and composition, rather than any attempt to convey real emotion. Cody) delivers a performance that’s a cut above the rest . Makenzie Leigh (Susan), John Benjamin Hickey (Father Callahan), and Lewis Pullman (Ben Mears)-in that order-do their best with the material. The younger actors are fine, but everyone else…
A couple of performances are even laughably bad. If the characters come off as one-dimensional despite the actors’ best efforts, it feels fitting that the main antagonist can’t even be described as such. His only discernible trait seems to be going "Bleaarrggghh" before feeding on his next victim. There’s virtually no blood or gore and most of the violence happens off camera. The score and sound design are serviceable but far from memorable, doing little to enhance the nonexistent emotional impact of the story. After nearly two hours of nothingness, the film devolves into a boring, senseless, and meaningless "action-packed" finale (keep an eye out for the sun moving at plot-convenient speeds).
The sequence is topped off with sub-par CGI and one of the most anticlimactic endings I can remember. Even if it was never going to be a masterpiece, there was a chance to make an emotionally resonant film with the timely theme of a small American town’s fear of "the outsider."Alas, what we' re left with is an hefty, bloated serving of nothing.. The acting was solid, but the plot was rushed, and what I will never understand is the creators felt the need to rewrite one of the best writers of our time.
Too many plotlines were left out and others were oddly crafted. I just wish that if the story had been properly developed, it would have become a proper series. Also, the Marsten house murder storyline could use some time, as it’s a great subplot and explanation for why Barlow and Straker chose that house/location.
This doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. The final season of What We Do in the Shadows is one of this month’s biggest TV and streaming premieres. Check out our October calendar for more details!

Theological differences aside, it is a solid film about an inspiring event that we believers should not overlook. It’s a film that pulls no punches – its PG13 rating is well deserved. Going into it, I was afraid the filmmakers would try to make adoption look easy. They didn’t. As it turns out, it can be a downright terrifying experience. There are scenes where the adoptive parents are in full regret mode. But as the movie explains, we weren’t made to live easy lives. We live to bear the burden of others, as Christ did. Mr. and Mrs. Martin and their congregation show us what that looks like.

Art the Clown is set to unleash chaos on the unsuspecting residents of Miles County as they peacefully drift off to sleep on Christmas Eve.. Director Damien Leone said that several big studios showed interest in financing this movie based on the unexpected success of Terrifier 2 (2022), even without a full script, but he turned them all down because he is certain that they would never let him film the opening scene alone, which he describes as "very controversial". Leone commented that the only reason that he can be so uncompromising in his depiction of horror and gore is because he finances his movies independently, creates all the special effects himself to keep costs down, and has no big studio breathing down his neck to make the movie more mainstream.. Mia mentions the 5 year anniversary of the original massacre was coming up soon, but it took place on Halloween, and this movie taking place on Christmas 5 years later would mean the anniversary had just passed 2 months ago.. Well, well, well… I just finished watching this Oscar worthy film, just kidding but seriously folks… I really did just finish watching this film and as far as gore goes, it definitely delivered 3 fold. It wasted no time getting to business within the first 10 minutes and by the time the shower scene arrived, my aunt was out of her seat and I didn't see her until I got to the car. If you're not into slasher/Gore movies then stay home. If these kind of movies float your boat, then check your brains at the door and enjoy every bodily secretion that pours, drips, flows and splatters throughout this 2 hour slashfest.. Art the Clown, Pennywise, and Killer Klowns are just a few of the comical creatures that send shivers down our spines. Check out the most terrifying clowns to grace the screen.
